Speaking of representing the 'real':

http://levels9.com/artprog1/actu/document_actu/femme_08_03_05/ femme_08_03_05.html

How can it be , on the one day of the year that 1/2 of the possibly- maybe human species is accorded a special durée (in fact, 12 hours of daylight at most) , that one could not possibly risk the exposure of trying to photograph humans on the street who appear to dress and behave according to whomever might register in the optic nerve and brain as " women" in Paris, this day.

Could have been chased off the sidewalk. It was easier to shoot adverts I guess.

Marginally, at best, for the first nano, "representations of the woman".

No ! Images of a constructed object, not a subject. Aphrodite blushes at your impertinence.

The object possibly labelled, 'fuck me duty free.' or maybe, I'll fuck you unless you buy the product behind me (I'm hiding it).

The gathering of these images in the form of a diaporama, their similarities reveal indisputably a specific representation of the woman, a model which it is sometimes difficult to perceive without this repetition and juxtaposition of photos. This diaporarama proposes to be bench a mark, a beacon, the report of a situation...

Of course there is a consistent repetition! That's the whole point of hypercapitalist image saturation. Surely Baudrillard is already rolling in his grave.

The word Diaporama evolved from two other words - Diapositive (French for a colour slide / transparency film) and Diorama (a word that describes a wide overall view) and it is now widely accepted as the proper description for presentations of this type.http:// www.muirshiel.com/diaporama/
does this mean that you are proposing that your diaporama is some kind of spectacular report of a
'situation' regarding a specific representation of................. 'the woman' ??

who dat?

woman/ no 'woman' : ahhhhhh, the oscillation of difference/ repetition, that old luscious heartbeat, reinforce the nobody-home- ness so that you can project your desires onto........ nobody. Bounces back to you, you feel you possess the formerly impossible to possess 'model'. Must be time to..........Buy!

Bye...

Been there so many times and it sure still doesn't feel right.

Eternally, essentially yours,

c

International Women's Day

Paris, March 8, 2005
Today March 8, 2005, international day of the woman, I took my camera and I walked myself randomly in the town of Paris, in the search of images representing the woman in public space, on the walls of the city, the kiosks, in the shops and the subway.

The idea was simple, to testify to the representation of the woman into 2005 through recent images, generally printed, during this day which was devoted to them.

My march started in the 9 th district, crossed 1st, the comédie française, the Louvre, then the street of Rivoli, 4th, St Paul, Jussieu, the street Monge, 5th to finish place of Italy in 13th and to return by subway to my starting point.
I did not seek to have a particular matter on the position of the woman in our company, but I have, throughout my course, photographed the image of the woman who was introduced to me.
The gathering of these images in the form of a diaporama, their similarities reveal indisputably a specific representation of the woman, a model which it is sometimes difficult to perceive without this repetition and juxtaposition of photos. This diaporarama proposes to be bench a mark, a beacon, the report of a situation...
